What route do SJI International students take into the IB Diploma?
SJI International students sit IGCSE in Grades 9 and 10 and take the IB Diploma, including Maths and Physics, in Grades 11 and 12. Because the school runs a January to December year, the final IB exams fall in the November session rather than in May, and the whole Maths and Physics calendar moves forward with them. The school published a Class of 2025 average of 38 points against a world average of 29.3 for that November session, so the standard in the cohort is high and DP1 is paced accordingly. DP1 opens in January, weeks after IGCSE, and the step into Maths AA HL or Physics HL arrives immediately, with algebraic fluency and fully written method assumed from the first term. The foundations are best built in the first half of DP1, while Internal Assessment deadlines are still far off.
Where do SJI International students usually need help in Maths and Physics?
SJI International students most often need IB Maths tuition and IB Physics tuition for four things: the choice between Maths AA and AI, Paper 3 at HL, Physics HL, and the Internal Assessment. These are different problems with different fixes, and treating them the same way wastes the months that matter. The AA or AI decision is really a university decision, and it is far easier to make in Grade 10 than to reverse in DP1. Paper 3 catches students who know the content but have never worked through a long guided investigation against the clock. In Physics HL marks go missing when the reasoning is not written out and the answer jumps to the final number. The Internal Assessment stalls at the start, on choosing a question narrow enough to measure. I work on these separately, with past paper questions and marked drafts.
How does one-to-one online IB tuition work in Singapore time?
SJI International students can have IB Maths tuition and IB Physics tuition one to one and online, on weekday evenings between 5 pm and 9 pm Singapore time. That is after the school day on Thomson Road, and it is my working morning in Europe, so the lessons fall when I am fresh. Everything happens on a shared whiteboard: the student writes, I write, and the page stays available afterwards, so the working can be reread before a test. We alternate topic teaching with past paper questions, including papers from November sessions. Because the exams come in November, the year gets denser from September, so I plan DP2 backwards from that point and keep the same weekly slot from January onwards.
