How does the route into the IB Diploma affect Maths and Physics in DP1?
For German European School Singapore (GESS) students, preparation for DP1 Maths and Physics depends on their previous curriculum and language of instruction. The English-language section follows IB programmes through to the Diploma in Grades 11 and 12. Moving from the German section into the IB section also means studying in English. In Grades 9 and 10, the English-language section follows the MYP, with mathematics groups organised by ability. The separate German-curriculum section leads to the Deutsches Internationales Abitur. These routes give students different starting points for mathematical notation, scientific vocabulary and extended explanations. In my **IB tuition**, I check algebra, functions and the use of equations in Physics, then address gaps before DP1 work builds on them. I also help students explain their reasoning clearly in English.
What Maths and Physics support can my child get?
For German European School Singapore (GESS) students, my IB Maths tuition and IB Physics tuition address understanding, problem solving and written reasoning. I work on the student's actual course and level, including AA HL Paper 3 preparation, Physics problem solving and the skills needed to develop an independent Internal Assessment. The GESS Diploma subject list includes **Maths AA at HL and SL, and Maths AI at SL only**. For AA, I can focus on algebra, calculus and unfamiliar problems; for AI SL, on modelling, statistics and interpreting results. Physics support can cover choosing a model, setting up equations and evaluating evidence. For the IA, I discuss the question, method and analysis while leaving authorship with the student. GESS also offers twice-weekly subject support for Grades 11 and 12; individual tuition can complement that provision.
When can online IB tuition fit into our Singapore schedule?
For German European School Singapore (GESS) students, I offer one-to-one online IB Maths tuition and IB Physics tuition on weekdays between 5 pm and 9 pm Singapore time. I teach from Europe, so families can arrange an evening slot around school commitments, activities and the student's available time for independent study. I am Pietro Meloni, a tutor with a **PhD in experimental particle physics** and more than ten years of experience teaching international-school students. Before a lesson, I ask for the current topic and examples of difficult questions. During our work, I ask the student to explain each step so I can identify the source of an error. I then select practice that addresses it. My teaching covers Maths AA and AI, HL and SL, and Physics HL and SL.
Families at German European School Singapore (GESS) can book a 20-minute assessment session with me, at no charge and with no commitment. We can discuss the student's Maths or Physics course, current difficulties and priorities.
