HKU: IB requirements and which maths course it accepts

Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and Electronic, Data and Systems). AI HL at grade 5 is listed explicitly; AI SL is not accepted (only AA SL at grade 6 is listed as the SL route). Physics: Grade 5 or above in Biology (HL) / Chemistry (HL) / Physics (HL), or Grade 6 or above in Biology (SL) / Chemistry (SL) / Physics (SL); Physics is one option, not compulsory.

Science (entry route for Physics and Mathematics). AI is accepted at both HL and SL with grade 4 or above. Physics: Grade 4 or above in one of Biology, Chemistry, Physics (HL/SL); Physics is one option, not compulsory.

Computing and Data Science. AI HL at grade 6 is listed alongside AA HL; SL of either course needs a 7. Physics: Grade 5 or above in one of Biology/Chemistry/Physics/Economics/Computer Science (HL), or Grade 6 in one of them at SL; Physics not compulsory.

Economics, and Economics and Finance. AI HL is accepted but needs a 6, one grade higher than AA HL (5); AI SL needs a 7.

The points total and the Higher Level grades are conditions that must all be met together. A student with 41 points and a 6 in HL Mathematics does not meet an offer that asks for 40 points with a 7 in HL Mathematics.

Where the page says a maths course is preferred, both are considered and the preference can count between similar applicants. Where it says only, the other course does not meet the requirement. If the school does not offer Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, write to admissions before applying and keep the answer.
