Why IGCSE Tutoring Matters
The IGCSE is a critical stage in your child's academic journey. For students at international schools in Milan, IGCSE results directly influence predicted grades and set the foundation for IB Diploma success. Many students find the transition from middle school to IGCSE challenging — the step up in content depth, mathematical rigour, and independent thinking can be substantial. A specialist IGCSE tutor who understands the specific demands of CIE and Edexcel syllabuses can identify gaps early, build confidence, and ensure students are fully prepared for their examinations. Early intervention at the IGCSE level is one of the most impactful investments a family can make in their child's education, preventing small misunderstandings from compounding into serious obstacles later in the IB Diploma Programme.
IGCSE grades shape IB Diploma predicted grades and university prospects
Early support prevents knowledge gaps from compounding in later years
Building strong study habits and exam technique from the start
Confidence in core subjects translates to better performance across the board
Subjects and Exam Boards: CIE and Edexcel
I tutor IGCSE Mathematics and Physics for both the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and Edexcel exam boards — the two most common boards used by international schools in Milan. Each board has a distinct syllabus structure, assessment style, and mark scheme approach. For CIE Mathematics, I cover the full 0580 Extended syllabus including number, algebra, geometry, statistics, and probability. For Edexcel, I work through the 4MA1 Higher Tier specification. In Physics, I cover CIE 0625 and Edexcel 4PH1, including practical-based questions and the alternative-to-practical paper. My familiarity with both boards means I can tailor lessons precisely to the mark schemes and examiner expectations your child will face, ensuring no time is wasted on content outside the scope of their specific exam.

How I Help IGCSE Students
Every student arrives with different strengths and gaps. I begin with a diagnostic assessment to map out exactly where your child stands relative to the syllabus, then design a personalised study plan that targets weak areas while reinforcing strengths. My lessons combine clear conceptual explanations with structured problem-solving practice. I use real past paper questions extensively, teaching students not just how to get the right answer but how to present their working in a way that maximises marks. For Physics, I place particular emphasis on understanding experimental methodology and data analysis — skills that many students struggle with but that carry significant weight in the exam. Sessions are available in-person in Milan or online, with flexible scheduling to fit around school commitments. I also provide between-session support, so students can reach out when they get stuck on homework or revision.

Results and Methodology
My students consistently achieve A* and A grades at IGCSE, with many going on to excel in the IB Diploma Programme. As a PhD physicist with over a decade of tutoring experience, I bring a depth of understanding that allows me to explain even the most challenging concepts in accessible, intuitive ways. My methodology is rooted in active learning: rather than passively watching worked examples, students in my sessions solve problems themselves with guided support, building genuine confidence and independent problem-solving ability. I also emphasise the metacognitive skills that separate top students from average ones — time management during exams, strategic question selection, and systematic checking of work. Parents receive regular progress updates, and I maintain close communication with families to ensure tutoring goals remain aligned with school expectations and examination timelines.

“Calm, structured, no panic. After the first lesson my daughter said: "finally someone who actually explains why."”
“Our family returned to Milan from Singapore last summer. Pietro was the only tutor who immediately understood the curriculum gap and built a clear plan.”

Frequently Asked Questions
How much do lessons cost?+
Standard lessons start from €70 per hour, with discounted rates for multi-lesson packages. Intensive transition or exam-prep programmes are quoted as a flat rate after the first call. Message me on WhatsApp for current rates.
Online or in person?+
Both. In person in Milan if your family is local; online for everyone else. The interactive whiteboard makes online lessons essentially identical to in-person for maths and physics.
In what language do you teach?+
English, Italian, or both — even within the same lesson. This is especially helpful for students who recently switched curriculum and still think in one language while studying in another.
My child is moving from Italian Liceo to IB. Can you help with the transition?+
Yes — this is one of my specialties. I have walked many students across the gap in both directions. The summer before the switch is the ideal moment for an 8-12 week intensive programme. See my dedicated page on curriculum transition for the full method.
How do I book a first lesson?+
Send me a WhatsApp message at +39 340 7397093 or use the contact form. I usually reply within 30 minutes. We will have a short call to align on goals, and from there book the first lesson.
Do you handle Internal Assessment and Extended Essay supervision?+
Yes — for Maths and Physics. I help students choose a strong topic, structure the investigation, and refine the written analysis. I cannot replace the school supervisor, but I significantly raise the final mark.
