History and Overview
ICS International School Milan operates three campuses across the city — Symbiosis, Tenca and Colletta — together forming one of the largest IB World School communities in Lombardy. Part of the Inspired Education Group, ICS Milan is an authorised IB World School for the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP), and offers Cambridge IGCSE qualifications for Years 10 and 11. The Symbiosis campus on Viale Ortles serves as the High School site, where students complete IGCSE and the IB Diploma. ICS Milan attracts a diverse community of expatriate, repat and Italian families looking for an internationally portable, English-medium education in central Milan.
IGCSE and IB Diploma Programme
In Years 10–11, ICS students sit Cambridge IGCSE examinations across a broad subject base — Mathematics (CIE 0580), Additional Mathematics (CIE 0606), Physics (CIE 0625), Chemistry (CIE 0620), Biology, English Language and Literature, Modern Languages, Humanities and the Arts. Most students take 8–10 subjects at the Extended tier. In Years 12–13, students transition into the IB Diploma Programme, choosing six subjects across the IB groups plus Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay and CAS. Mathematics is offered as both Analysis and Approaches (AA) and Applications and Interpretation (AI), at HL and SL. Physics, Chemistry and Biology are available at HL and SL within Group 4. The combination of two years of IGCSE preparation followed by the IB Diploma is one of the most academically rigorous routes available in Milan and prepares students well for selective UK, US and European universities.
Campus and Community
The Symbiosis campus on Viale Ortles 46 in southern central Milan is the senior school site, hosting MYP, IGCSE and IB Diploma students. The location is well-served by public transport (M3 Lodi T.I.B.B.) and is within easy reach of central Milan neighbourhoods including Porta Romana, Lodi, Vigentino and Corso Italia. The Tenca and Colletta campuses host younger years (Nursery, PYP and early MYP). The school community is genuinely international, with students from dozens of nationalities and a strong proportion of bilingual Italian-English families. Class sizes are intentionally kept small for a personal teacher–student relationship, and the broader Inspired Group network gives ICS Milan students access to exchange opportunities across Europe.
Why Choose This School
ICS Milan offers an unusual and powerful combination: Cambridge IGCSE in Years 10–11 followed by the IB Diploma in Years 12–13. This route delivers two highly portable, internationally recognised qualifications across four years and prepares students well for both UK and continental European universities. The central Milan location, the connection to the wider Inspired Group network, and the small-class environment make ICS one of the strongest IB-pathway options in the city. For families looking for a curriculum that combines British examination rigour at IGCSE with the breadth and depth of the IB at Diploma level, ICS is among the most coherent choices in Milan.
I work with ICS Milan students across both the IGCSE and IB Diploma stages — Maths, Physics, Chemistry. If your child is preparing for IGCSE Maths/Physics or sitting IB Math AA/AI or IB Physics, contact me for a free assessment session.
