How can my child prepare for DP1 Maths and Physics at Canadian International School of Hong Kong?
Canadian International School of Hong Kong students move from the IB MYP into Diploma Mathematics and Physics, where DP1 requires secure algebra, confident graph interpretation and clear scientific reasoning. I help students strengthen these foundations and establish a manageable study routine as they begin their chosen Diploma subjects. CDNIS describes itself as one of only eight IB continuum schools in Hong Kong, teaching three IB programmes through to Grade 12. That continuity provides the context for preparation, while I check each student's understanding directly. Students graduate with both the IB Diploma and the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), so Grade 11 and 12 students carry Ontario credit requirements on top of the Diploma. I plan Maths and Physics work around those overlapping demands.
What support can an IB tutor offer my child in Maths and Physics?
Canadian International School of Hong Kong students can work with me on IB Mathematics AA or AI, HL Paper 3, Physics HL and the Internal Assessment. I identify whether the immediate difficulty concerns concepts, mathematical methods, unfamiliar questions or written explanations, then use focused practice to address it. In AA, I examine algebraic fluency and the reasoning behind solutions; in AI, modelling, interpretation and calculator use. For HL Paper 3, I practise extended problems that require students to connect ideas. Physics work links equations to physical assumptions, units and evidence. For the IA, I discuss scope, method and analysis while keeping authorship with the student. The school published a Class of 2026 average of 39 IB points, with three students on 45 and 48% at 40 or more. Those results provide context, never an individual prediction.
How does online IB tutoring fit around school in Hong Kong?
Canadian International School of Hong Kong students can arrange one-to-one online IB tutoring in Mathematics and Physics with me on weekdays between 5 pm and 9 pm Hong Kong time. I teach from Europe and agree a regular slot with each family around the student's school commitments and independent study. I am Pietro Meloni, with a PhD in Physics in experimental particle physics and more than ten years teaching international-school students. My teaching is exclusively online and one-to-one. Students can bring a difficult question, recent work or an upcoming topic; I use their reasoning to decide what needs attention and set a clear next step. Hong Kong does not change its clocks. When European clocks change, I keep scheduling in HKT so families have a consistent local reference.
Families at Canadian International School of Hong Kong can book a 20-minute assessment session with me to discuss Maths or Physics needs. The assessment carries no charge and no commitment.
